milConnect
The DoD self-service portal where retirees verify and update DEERS, view TRICARE coverage, and request ID cards.
What is it?
milConnect (milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil) is the public-facing web portal to the DEERS database. Retirees use it to verify TRICARE eligibility, update contact info, manage dependents, and view their official Medicare data as reported to TRICARE.
Why does it matter?
milConnect is how you confirm TFL has activated. Log in, go to 'My Profile,' and check that both Medicare Part A and Part B effective dates are present.
When you'll encounter it
Anytime you change addresses, enroll in Medicare, marry, divorce, or update a beneficiary. Also annually to verify nothing has drifted.
Impact on Medicare
None. milConnect doesn't change Medicare records — but it shows whether DEERS knows about your Medicare coverage.
Impact on TRICARE For Life
Critical. If milConnect shows no Part B date, your TFL won't activate.
Common misconceptions
- "milConnect is just for active duty." — Retirees and family members use milConnect throughout retirement to maintain DEERS.
