- What is FEDVIP and how do I enroll?Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program — voluntary dental and vision plans for federal retirees, retired military, and their families. Enroll at BENEFEDS during Open Season (mid-November to mid-December).
- Does TFL cover dental care?No. Original Medicare and TFL don't cover routine dental. Retired military and family enroll in FEDVIP through BENEFEDS for dental and vision coverage.
- What do I do about dental, vision, and hearing?Original Medicare and TFL don't cover routine dental, vision, or hearing. Options include FEDVIP, standalone plans, or a Medicare Advantage plan that bundles them.
- Will TFL or Medicare cover hearing aids?Original Medicare doesn't cover hearing aids, so TFL won't either. VA may provide them if you have service-connected hearing loss. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a hearing aid allowance.
- What about routine eye exams and glasses?Medicare doesn't cover routine eye exams or glasses for adults. FEDVIP vision plans and many MA plans do. Medicare and TFL still cover medical eye care (cataracts, glaucoma).
- What actually changes the day I turn 65?Your TRICARE Prime/Select ends, Medicare A and B become primary, TRICARE For Life turns on as your secondary, and your MTF access drops to space-available.
- What should be on my 90-day checklist before turning 65?Apply for Medicare A and B, verify DEERS, build a civilian care team, transfer prescriptions if leaving an MTF pharmacy, and review FEDVIP for dental/vision.
